Scola, circa 1986
Born in 1957, in the southern Brazil town of Caxias do Sul, I began to take an interest in drawing and painting at around the age of 6. At this point in time, I began to draw on paper using colored pencils and crayons that were provided to me by my parents. Years later, now studying at a nun school, I continued to receive support from my nun tutors, who incentivized me to continue to draw and paint, and the art I produced at that age was so much to their liking that the nuns kept most of it to themselves.
In the 1970s, I enrolled in the Fine Arts course at the University of Caxias do Sul (UCS), where I graduated and later pursued my career as an artist, eventually finding my niche and main interests in abstract art and in sculpting, creating paintings that drew the attention of the local art community and later earned their place in a handful of art expositions. Around that period, I also began to lecture art at local schools.
In the following decades, now out of my hometown and a dedicated mother of two, I continued to lecture art as well as produce abstract paintings that display my own signature style; one that is colorful, textured and that often expresses a sense of tropical warmth, embodying a prominent Latin nature and character.
In this 2021 video, I talk about my trajectory as an artist and subsequent teacher, as well as my love for visual arts.
